I then switch to sort by date taken and browse a few years or months to make sure various photos are obviously there. All the photos I just uploaded should be there. Just to make sure everything is working as it should, I go to the Fr website and sort my photos by upload date. Such as, “sort later”, “tag for wedding”, “rename 530 of these and tag”, etc. I name the album according to what I want to do with them when I have the time. Once done, I then upload the same photos to Fr and may put them in the same album. If there’s lots of photos or I plan to rename many of them I’ll use the DB desktop app. I then select the events I want, export them to a folder, then use my browser to upload them to DB. I place them into one or more events and might give them names and descriptions. I have an immediate backup copy, just in case, soon after I import photos.Īfter the photos are imported, either right then and there or days later when I have the time, I return to iPhoto and browse the newest photos. It doesn’t matter if I’ve uploaded them to DB, Fr, or another online storage service. So whenever I import new photos to my Mac’s iPhoto library I know within an hour they’ll be backed up to my external drive automatically. So I really don’t have a need for always keeping my DB desktop active or using DB’s extended history add-on.

That includes backing up my entire DB folder. That’s because I let my Mac’s Time Machine feature make hourly backups to everything important on my Mac. In fact, I usually have it turned off lol. I advise never use it on a Mac.īefore you ask questions, I must say that unlike most DB users I don’t keep DB running all the time. I keep them in DB mostly as an additional backup and for using with third party apps.įor the most part I only use the DB desktop app when I’m renaming hundreds (or thousands) of photos or there’s more than 1 GB or so of changes. The overview of my workflow is to extract photos from iPhoto, use my browser to upload them separately to DB and Fr, then organize them in Fr using tags, descriptions, placing them in various albums, etc.

Feel free to use it as a starting point and make changes. I’ve started this discussion to share some of what my DB-Fr workflow looks like. Used together, DP and Fr will make you fall in love with your photos again. I humbly introduce you to Flickr (Fr), which has most (if not all) the photo album features you wish DB had. On the list of things you like about Dropbox (DB) chances are using photo albums isn’t one of them.
